Upcoming News & Events

This session is sponsored in part by Whole Foods Market (Boulder, CO on Baseline). They will be providing snacks and drinks for our meetup. A big " Thank You " to Adam Riggs for moderating our August session!

We have a lot of exciting events planned and news to share! But first, we would like to welcome back our Music Director, Clayton Vaughn, to Colorado after his summer absence to attend Tanglewood in Lenox, Massachusetts. Tanglewood is a renowned summer music intensive program by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, where Clayton participated as a "Cello Fellow" in the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra. For more information regarding Tanglewood and his concerts, visit his website here .

  • Upcoming Meetup - Clayton Vaughn is an enthusiastic caring cello teacher who is passionate about sharing his love of cello and music with others. As an active teacher he is a sectionals coach for a local middle school and high school in Boulder, and is a string faculty member of the Parlando School for the Arts. He was also a cello Teaching Assistant for Judith Glyde from Fall 2009 to Spring 2012. Clayton is an avid orchestral musician and is the principal cellist for the Boulder Chamber Orchestra, and a member of the Greeley Philharmonic and the Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra. Currently, Clayton is enrolled at UC-Boulder where he studies with both Judith Glyde and András Fejér, and will be receiving his Doctorate of Musical Arts in cello performance at the end of this year.

  • Improvisation Mini-Workshop with Phil Norman - We're laying the groundwork for members who have never played jazz or improvisation, but want to start learning, so members can join our jazz play-ins once those sessions begin! This workshop will focus on learning tune melodies and chords, improvisation, and playing with respect for your health and body. A fee will be assessed to join this series .
About Phil Norman :
Raised in Cincinnati, OH, Phil Norman is a dynamic and innovative performer and an avid supporter of contemporary music.
Phil writes and performs his own solo cello music, which often features unusual and mixed meters, jazz and folk influences, and innovative pizzicato techniques.

His compositions have been featured on Boulder's Radio 1190 and have won fourth place in the Indie International Songwriting Contest in the instrumental category. Although classically trained, Phil is equally at home in almost any idiom, including improvising.

He has performed concerts in the United States, Italy, and Australia, and in masterclasses for Natalia Gutman and Wendy Warner.
Phil also helps to produce and performs in The Blind Cafe , and award winning, community awareness concert and dinner in the pitch dark. He has also appeared as a guest with bands such as Elephant Revival, Heather Marie-Philip, Derek Hart, and Astoria Boulevard in New York.

The date and time of this workshop will be posted on our Meetup site once the event details have been finalized. For more information on Phil, visit his website at: www.GravityCello.com .

  • Beginner Ensemble Series with Clayton Vaughn - This 3-part series is for beginner to intermediate adult cellists to learn how to play in a group ensemble. We are aware that many adult beginners have not had the chance to play with others. This series will help cellists feel more comfortable joining our Play-in sessions; whereas our guided Play-ins are geared to have FUN and is not meant to provide individual instruction or lessons, this series will be geared towards ensemble skills and instruction to play with others; with the goal that more "beginner" cellists are able to join our sessions with more confidence and play comfortably with others. This series is not required to join our Play-ins. A fee will be assessed to join this series .
The date and time will be posted on our Meetup site once the event has been finalized. For more information on Clayton, visit his website at: www.ClaytonVaughn.com .

  • January Wine Tasting & Play-in Session - what a great pairing! To celebrate the the New Year, we have planned for a free wine tasting for members and their friends and family! Friends and family are also welcome to stay and watch the session in a fun, and relaxed play-in session.

Thank you to our wonderful sponsors, members and volunteers, and please keep the feedback and suggestions coming!
